Money & Life an exploration of net worth’s relationship to self-worth (and an opportunity to shake things up)

worth

Because our lives in the modern world have become so dependent on money, many of us conflate our self worth with our net worth–no matter the size of our bank account, says documentary filmmaker Katie Teague. “We look through the lens of scarcity that’s built into our money system without even being aware of it. And when we honestly investigate how we ‘spend’ our time, we too often find that it’s not in alignment with what we espouse to value. As Saint Paul famously stated, ‘I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate, I do.'”

Katie knows whereof she speaks. She spent two years working on the well-received Money & Life, an essay-style documentary released last year that engages numerous thought-leaders (think Lynne Twist , Bernard Lietaer, William Greider, Vandana Shiva) and asks a provocative question: can we come to view the country’s recent economic crisis not as as disaster but as an opportunity– to transition to a sustainable, equitable and restorative economy that meets the needs and realities of the 21st century?

Please join us on the white sofa for an intimate exploration to bring awareness to our lived reality of worth and value, with an eye toward moving to embrace what we value most deeply. As led by Katie and spring-boarding off material from her film, we’ll take a look at value, individually and collectively, and give ourselves and each other the rare opportunity to be honest about reclaiming true worth form the rule of money. You’ll come away with new ideas about what might be possible for yourself, and for all of us.

Though not required, pre-gathering viewing of the 86-minute long Money & LIfe is recommended. It can be live-streamed for $3.99 and is available here.

Attendance is limited to twelve, so register early.

In the spirit of the evening, there will be no set charge for the event, but participants will be asked–at the end of it–to make a financial contribution that feels right for them if they so choose.
